10th December 2022

Only one shopping weekend left to get all those presents, no pressure! The weekend papers are relentless in their gift guides, it's so easy nowadays because everything is online, but we remember back in the 90s when you had to make a special trip to London, and go all over the place to find things. A particular favourite was the King's Road in Chelsea, which in those days had a Habitat, a Heals, a Jerry's Home Store, and other little gift shops for things you might never see in any papers.

Here are some items under £30 that we recommend, taken from the Times and Guardian.

Vitra are a great German design house with many international designers on their books. This is one of their most affordable items, now produced in recycled plastic in many colours. Available at The Conran Shop and Heals

We love Chillys - the quality of their drinks bottles is superb. And this groovy little coffee mug is exquisite. Buy from Fenwick Stores because they have a great gift range online as well as in their shops in Brent Cross, Kingston, Bracknell, Newcastle etc etc

Brillo wooden blocks - perfect miniature reproductions of Warhol's reproductions. Such fun. Buy from
Blackwells or WH Smiths, £15.

Our favourite cheeseboards are these very affordable ones (£9), you'll find them in some Tesco stores, and in M&S at Christmas. There's a French one with Crottin de chèvre - soft and smooth, Tomme de brebis - fruity, Maroilles AOP - mild and distinctive, Bleu d'Auvergne AOP - fresh and rich, St Nectaire Laitier AOP - soft and rich; and a Spanish one with Manchego and quince jam.

The cutest soft toy/decorations around are by Jellycat, and what better to buy at Christmas than some plush mistletoe? No drippy berries to worry about, these cheery faces are good enough to keep up all year!
